StarlyCode Studio Privacy Policy
This policy explains which personal data StarlyCode Studio, the code editor for Windows, processes and how. In short: almost none, because the program works on your computer and doesn't send us your data. The website and the other Starlyware services are covered by the general Privacy Policy.
1. Data Controller
The data controller is Starlyware di Gianluca Grasso, independent developer, Chieti (CH), Italy. For any privacy question or to exercise your rights, write to info@starlyware.com.
2. At a Glance
- StarlyCode Studio works offline and doesn't require an account.
- No ads, no telemetry, no analytics and no crash reports are sent.
- Your code, your projects and your settings stay on your computer.
- The only connection is the update check on www.starlyware.com.
3. Data That Stays on Your Computer
StarlyCode saves some information in its own folders on your computer, so that it works the way you left it. We never receive it:
- Settings: theme, language, autosave, window size and layouts, recent projects, default folder and local web server settings (folder, address and port).
- Profile: at the first start you can enter your name, surname, organization, country and type of use (private, business or school). They are used only to personalize the program and are not sent anywhere.
- License acceptance: whether you have accepted the license terms.
- Projects: your files and the solution files that StarlyCode creates in the project folders you choose.
- File associations: if you open web files with StarlyCode, Windows remembers it in the registry of your user account.
You can delete all of this by uninstalling StarlyCode and removing its folders and your projects.
4. Update Check
When StarlyCode checks for updates, it downloads a small file from www.starlyware.com with the number of the latest version. If a new version is available and you accept, it downloads the installer from the same site. Like any request to a website, these connections reveal your IP address, the date and time and technical information about the connection to the server that hosts starlyware.com (Aruba S.p.A., in Italy). We don't use them to identify you: they are handled like the browsing data described in the general Privacy Policy and kept for at most 12 months.
StarlyCode sends no data about you, your computer or your code.
5. Local Web Server and Links
When you open a project on localhost, the browser connects to the web server on your own computer: nothing leaves your network. Some menu items (documentation, sample projects on GitHub, the website, the bug report page) open pages in your browser: from that moment the privacy policies of those sites apply.
6. Microsoft Store
If you install StarlyCode from the Microsoft Store, Microsoft handles the download and the updates under its own privacy statement. Microsoft may give us aggregated statistics on downloads, which don't identify you.
7. Support, Bug Reports and Certificates
If you write to us or use the bug report form, we process the data you send us as described in the general Privacy Policy.
StarlyCode certificates. As the creator of StarlyCode Studio, Gianluca Grasso issues free certificates to people who show that they can use the software well: they certify skills, not a course or a qualification. If you have received one, our register contains the certificate ID, your name and the date of issue. Anyone who has the ID printed on the certificate can check it on the verification page, which shows only those three details. We process these data to issue the certificate you asked for and to let others check that it's authentic (Art. 6(1)(b) and (f) GDPR), and we keep them as long as the certificate exists. You can ask us at any time to correct your name or to revoke the certificate: it is then removed from the register and can no longer be verified.
8. Your Rights
Under Articles 15-22 of the GDPR you have the right to access your data, ask for its rectification or erasure, restrict or object to its processing, receive it in a portable format and lodge a complaint with the Italian Data Protection Authority (www.garanteprivacy.it) or with the authority of your country. Since StarlyCode keeps your data on your computer, you can also manage it yourself. To exercise your rights, write to info@starlyware.com. We reply within one month.
9. People in Canada
Starlyware is based in Italy and applies the GDPR. If you are in Canada, we also follow the principles of the Personal Information Protection and Electronic Documents Act (PIPEDA) and, where it applies, of Quebec's private sector privacy law. You can ask us for access to your personal information or to correct it, and complain to the Office of the Privacy Commissioner of Canada (www.priv.gc.ca) or, in Quebec, to the Commission d'accès à l'information (www.cai.gouv.qc.ca).
10. Changes
If a future version of StarlyCode processes data differently, we will update this policy before releasing it. The date of the last update is shown at the top.
