What is Starlyze

Astronomy is better shared

Starlyze is an Android social app dedicated to astronomy, developed by Starlyware, an independent studio based in Chieti, Italy. It is made for amateur astronomers, astrophotographers, deep-sky observers and anyone curious about what happens in the night sky.

Publish deep-sky shots, planets and celestial events with a full technical record (telescope, optics, camera, mount, date, time and place) in dedicated categories: astrophotography, celestial events such as eclipses, conjunctions and meteor showers, and unidentified aerial phenomena (UAP, often called UFOs). Follow your favourite observers, discuss in nested comments with mentions and plan night sessions in private chat.

To choose where to observe, the interactive map shows the best dark sky spots away from light pollution, rated on the Bortle scale from class 1 to 9 and with their altitude, and you can add new spots for the community. The UAP radar shows the geolocated sightings of the last 30 days, which the community rates for credibility, to encourage a critical and transparent approach.

How it works

From your eyepiece to the community

1

Plan the night

Check the Moon phase and the sky events, then choose a dark sky spot on the Bortle map.

2

Observe and shoot

Capture your observation and note telescope, camera, mount, time and place.

3

Share and discuss

Publish it, read the comments of other observers and continue the conversation in chat.

Frequently asked questions about Starlyze

Starlyze is coming soon on Google Play for Android. Follow Starlyware on Instagram or Facebook to know when it launches.

Yes, Starlyze will be free to download.

The Bortle scale rates the darkness of the night sky from class 1 (an excellent dark site, far from any light) to class 9 (an inner-city sky). Starlyze shows the Bortle class of each dark sky spot, so you can choose where to observe.

Yes. Each post can include the telescope, optics, camera and mount you used, with the date, time and place of the observation.

UAP (unidentified aerial phenomena, often called UFOs) sightings stay on the map for 30 days and the community rates their credibility. The goal is a critical approach: many reports turn out to be satellites, aircraft, planets or atmospheric phenomena.

Yes, a free account is needed to post, comment, follow other observers and chat.
